Draining the Swamp: The Depletion of Apalachicola’s Oysters

For my senior capstone exhibition at the University of Georgia, I designed and produced a large format book depicting the environmental issues surrounding the decline of the oyster population in Apalachicola, a small Florida fishing town. Through layered illustrations paired with text, users learn how Tate’s Hell Swamp—the health of which Apalachicola’s oysters are dependent on—has changed ecologically over seven decades and the consequential impact on water quality and the oyster community. Shown below are my illustrations, how they are layered, and the design of the book.
